Ray Optics क्या है? | What is Ray Optics?

Ray of Light

Reflection of Light |

Reflection के नियम | Laws of Reflection

  2. Angle of incidence (i) = Angle of reflection (r)
  4. Normal surface पर point of incidence पर खींची गई perpendicular line होती है।
  5. Reflection का basic relation है:

i = r

Spherical Mirrors |

Important Terms of Spherical Mirror

Pole (P)

Centre of Curvature (C)

Centre of Curvature उस imaginary sphere का centre है जिसका एक हिस्सा spherical mirror की reflecting surface बनाता है। Pole P और centre C के बीच की distance को radius of curvature (R) कहते हैं।

PC = R

Radius of Curvature (R)

R = PC

Spherical mirror के लिए paraxial rays की condition में focal length और radius of curvature के बीच relation:

f = R/2

R = 2f

Principal Axis

Pole और centre of curvature को join करने वाली straight line को principal axis कहते हैं।

Principal Focus (F)

Focal Length (f)

f = PF

Spherical mirror

f = R/2

Cartesian Sign Convention |

Ray Optics में numerical problems solve करने के लिए New Cartesian Sign Convention use किया जाता है।

Mirror Formula |

    \[ \boxed{\frac{1}{f}=\frac{1}{v}+\frac{1}{u}} \]

  • f = focal length
  • v = image distance
  • u = object distance

Magnification of Spherical Mirror

    \[ \boxed{m=\frac{h_i}{h_o}=-\frac{v}{u}} \]

  • h_i = image height
  • h_o = object height
  • v = image distance
  • u = object distance

m > 1: enlarged image
m < 1: diminished image
m = 1: same-size image

Negative magnification generally inverted image को indicate करती है।

Concave Mirror |

Image Formation

Object PositionImage PositionNature
InfinityFReal, inverted, highly diminished
Beyond CBetween C and FReal, inverted, diminished
At CAt CReal, inverted, same size
Between C and FBeyond CReal, inverted, enlarged
At FInfinityHighly enlarged
Between F and PBehind mirrorVirtual, erect, enlarged

Convex Mirror |

Refraction of Light |

Laws of Refraction |

First Law

Incident ray, refracted ray और point of incidence पर drawn normal एक ही plane में होते हैं।

Second Law — Snell’s Law

    \[ \boxed{\frac{\sin i}{\sin r}=constant} \]

या

    \[ \boxed{n_1\sin i=n_2\sin r} \]

जहाँ i angle of incidence और r angle of refraction हैं।

Refractive Index |

    \[ \boxed{n=\frac{c}{v}} \]

  • c = speed of light in vacuum
  • v = speed of light in medium

Refraction through a Glass Slab

Lateral displacement वह perpendicular distance है जो original path of incident ray और emergent ray के बीच बनती है।

यह displacement slab की thickness, angle of incidence और refractive index पर depend करता है।

Total Internal Reflection |

  2. i > C, जहाँ C critical angle है।

Critical Angle |

Denser medium से rarer medium में light जाने पर वह angle of incidence जिसके लिए angle of refraction 90° हो जाता है, उसे critical angle (C) कहते हैं।

    \[ \boxed{\sin C=\frac{1}{n}} \]

अधिक general form:

    \[ \boxed{\sin C=\frac{n_2}{n_1}} \]

Applications of Total Internal Reflection

Optical Fibre |

Refraction at a Spherical Surface

    \[ \boxed{\frac{n_2}{v}-\frac{n_1}{u} =\frac{n_2-n_1}{R}} \]

जहाँ n_1 और n_2 दोनों media के refractive indices हैं तथा R spherical surface की radius of curvature है।

Lens |

Important Terms of Lens

Optical Centre (O)

Principal Axis

Lens के दोनों spherical surfaces के centres of curvature को join करने वाली straight line को principal axis कहते हैं।

Principal Focus

Focal Length

    \[ \boxed{f=OF} \]

Lens Formula

Thin lens के लिए object distance u, image distance v और focal length f के बीच relation:

    \[ \boxed{\frac{1}{f}=\frac{1}{v}-\frac{1}{u}} \]

  • f = focal length
  • v = image distance
  • u = object distance

Magnification by Lens

Lens द्वारा produced linear magnification:

    \[ \boxed{m=\frac{h_i}{h_o}=\frac{v}{u}} \]

  • h_i = image height
  • h_o = object height
  • v = image distance
  • u = object distance

Power of Lens |

    \[ \boxed{P=\frac{1}{f} } \]

SI unit:

    \[ \boxed{\text{Dioptre (D)}} \]

  • Convex lens → positive power
  • Concave lens → negative power

Example: यदि f=0.5m, तो:

    \[ P=2D \]

Combination of Thin Lenses

    \[ \boxed{P=P_1+P_2+P_3+\cdots} \]

    \[ \boxed{\frac{1}{F}=\frac{1}{f_1}+\frac{1}{f_2}} \]

Prism |

इस angle को angle of prism (A) कहते हैं। इस angular deviation को angle of deviation (δ) कहते हैं।

Angle of Deviation

Prism में incident ray और emergent ray के original direction के बीच angle को angle of deviation (δ) कहते हैं।

Prism के लिए relation:

    \[ \boxed{\delta=i+e-A} \]

  • i = angle of incidence
  • e = angle of emergence
  • A = angle of prism
  • \delta = angle of deviation

Minimum Deviation

    \[ \boxed{i=e} \]

और

    \[ \boxed{r_1=r_2=\frac{A}{2}} \]

Prism का refractive index:

    \[ \boxed{ n=\frac{\sin\left(\frac{A+\delta_m}{2}\right)} {\sin\left(\frac{A}{2}\right)} } \]

Dispersion of Light |

VIBGYOR

  • Violet
  • Indigo
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Red

Scattering of Light |

Human Eye |

Accommodation of Eye

Far Point

Near Point

Near point ≈ 25 cm

Far Point

Far point = Infinity

Defects of Vision

  • Astigmatism

Myopia |

Correction

Hypermetropia |

Correction

Know More: Electrochemistry for 12th: Notes for chapter 3 of chemistry 12

Presbyopia |

  • Convex lens
  • Concave + convex combination
  • Bifocal/progressive lenses

Simple Microscope

    \[ \boxed{M=\frac{D}{f}} \]

जहाँ D = least distance of distinct vision और f = focal length।

Compound Microscope

  • Objective lens
  • Eyepiece lens

Astronomical Telescope

  • Objective lens
  • Eyepiece lens

    \[ \boxed{M=-\frac{f_o}{f_e}} \]

Ray Optics Chapter
